Sun Lee is an eleven-year girl whose father’s name is Yun. They are moving from the traditional Chinese religions to Christianity. Sun wants to give a gift of rice to Jesus. Not sure how Christ will arrive, Sun comes up with a plan. This plan is personal, and Sun does not share it with her dad. Yun and Sun struggle to have enough food to survive. They really don’t have enough to share. But wouldn’t Christ share what He had? There is a one-legged beggar in the area between their house and the field where Yun worked. He needs food. God intervenes and brings the three people—Yun, Sun, and the beggar—together oddly and unusually. The Gift of Sun Lee by Diane Bostick shows that God often appears in disguise. God never expects us to give what we don’t have. In The Gift of Sun Lee, Diane Bostick shows how God moves in mysterious ways. Changing cultures is a difficult challenge. The Christian church (both Catholic and Protestant) has challenged cultures in many countries. This change does not come without complications. Christianity teaches sharing with others. However, how can you share with others when you do not have enough for yourself. True love finds a way when there seems to be no way. Even though Sun Lee does not have enough food to share, she wants to give some of the little rice she has to Jesus. Read this book to learn how she enacts a plan to feed the Savior. No matter where you live or how much you have, God can use you to minister the love of Christ to others.
